WADI HALFA REFUGEE CAMP
PROJECT
A.
PROJECT BREIF
Due to the prolonged war situation in Sudan, which
resulted in displacement of a large
segment of the population, severe disruption of all civil services and primary
needs such security, shelter, health, education, electricity and water supply,
Sudan people started to migrate to the boarder countries.
The city of Wadi Halfa is in the far north of Sudan
and close to Egypt southern border to which, thousands of Sudanese people have
taken refuge, escaping the bloody war and seeking safety. The city is quite small[SA1] with an estimated population of
close to 20,000 and lacks capacity of welcoming vast batches of people who need
to stay for weeks to arrange Egypt entry visa UNHCR estimates that more than 360,000 people are
displaced in the Northern Province of Sudan with more than 40,000 estimated to
be in the city of Wadi Hlfa.
The city is facing serious challenges coping with the
large number of displaced people it is forced to host, thus prompting the idea of constructing a refugee
transitional camp. In this regard, the Sudanese Engineers Association in Qatar
(SEAQ) communicated with the officials in Wadi Halfa (Appendix-1) to dedicate a
piece of land with near access to transportation, electricity & water
infrastructure and other amenities.
A plot of land with area of 4050 square meters, kept for future youth centre, has been dedicated for the camp project (Appendix-2). This land is ready with wall boundary with the possibility of splitting it into two zones. One zone for the families with young children and bachelor females. The other zone for bachelor males.
